Bravisimo!

Wow. I can't believe that this semester is already coming to a close. It's crazy how quickly time flies by when your not physically keeping track of it. I guess this blog could be considered a little bittersweet. Another school semester has finally come and gone and I am definitely happy to see this one come to an end because honestly, for some reason I had a horrible case of the procrastination bug. I don't think there was one assignment I didn't procrastinate on which was sort of stupid and gave me an unnecessary load of stress. I will however miss this class. It's crazy when a class comes to an end and you realize that you will never take it again and you will probably never see or hear from your classmates again. Being an online class, we never really met eye-to-eye, well most of us, but we have learned to respect each other and to build on each others knowledge. I found myself learning more and more from all of you through our blogs and our reading discussions and even our group projects. I always considered myself to be pretty open-minded, but then again I have always being extremely stubborn. When we were asked to give our opinion on controversial topics, at first my main state of mind was, well my opinion is the obvious right one because its common sense. When I started reading all of your comments and opinions on our discussion forums I was amazed to see how much I was overlooking! I had never spent time to actually think through my conclusions and I had never had that healthy debate about what was right. This is one reason why I have to say thank you to my fellow classmates because you guys taught me that there is always another side to the story and never jump to conclusions until you have weighed all the details and read all the writing in the fine lines.

Finally I need to thank our wonderful teacher Professer Gross because she has the patience to have an online class like this. It takes a skilled teacher to figure out ways for her pupils to do group projects without being face to face with each other. The way she used her creativity to put together all these different assignments for us made it easy for us to complete them and from what she writes in her announcements, it appears we have all benefitted from these interesting assignments and are all doing fairly well. I will take what I have learned from this class and apply it to the future. And with that, I hope you all find what you are looking for and I hope you all lead successful and happy lives. Remember: Every mistake is a lesson learned, and live life with spontanaeity and open arms so you can leave without regrets. Ciao.

  1. Amanda,

I always enjoyed reading your blogs. They were entertaining, and light hearted. I often found myself thinking that your words were exactly my thoughts so there were these "Damn, now I have to write something different" because you just did moments! Here's a few comments: I'm impressed at your praise of our fearless leader. I too was amazed at how she kept us together and working productively in group and out. This is a tough class but you hit it on the head: every mistake is a lesson learned. I learned lots of lessons to apply to my future!

Good luck in your other classes and great success to you!

  4. I guess the bittersweet aspect of this final blog really is the defining feeling we all seem to have. I love how we were all in this together. We all faced so many of the same issues of procrastination, and some of us event went through some major life changes. I have to completely agree with you that Prof. Gross did a great job. I really almost feeling like we should have all gotten together to buy her a day at the spa or something as a farewell gift. I think we will all remember her as an exceptional teacher.
Any ways, as I stated in someone my comment to someone else's blog, this is my final note in your yearbook! So I need to say something inspiring: "Have A great summer! You were super cool!" hmmm.... not quite cutting it huh? I guess its aways harder to be profound when you're trying to profound. Inspiration is something difficult to force. So I'll keep it simple: Thank you for being part of this class and the learning community of English 103. It was a pleasure to learn with you and I know you will do great things wherever you go. 6. Hello Amanda,

When this semester first started, I dreaded the thought of having to compete the course requirements place before us in the semester syllabus. It seemed like such a daunting task for any student, much less a student who must work and finish 16 units of additional science courses in addition to this course! I cannot count how many times I subconsciously thought to myself: “Are we there YET?”

But the irony has been that Professor Gross’s class as actually been one of the highlights of my academic experience this semester. The readings were wonderfully entertainment and educational. The blogging experience has been a first – and most definitely not the last – time I’ve actually enjoyed sharing my thoughts with others in a non-work related context. I will actually miss the great “virtual” interactions between fellow students like yourself and others over such an important subject as writing well. Effective writing will take one further in both personal and professional realms than one may realize while still in college.

I hope you and your family have a terrific summer and great future ahead!

    Cheers,
    John
